As the founder of LYLAB Technology Solutions, one of the most seasoned IT services providers in his Central Pennsylvania community, Rodney Royer wears his heart on his sleeve. Even the business name – LYLAB – stands for “Love You Like A Brother,” which speaks to the value Rodney places on relationships. He has been building relationships with local businesses for over 20 years.
Who else can say they’ve had over a decade’s worth of experience working on computers by the age of just 23?! Rodney’s work ethic and passion for technology started when he was only nine years old. He remembers helping his dad in their basement bring broken computers to life. Always striving for perfection, he learned the RIGHT way to disassemble and reassemble computers in the most efficient ways possible.
College became Rodney’s first real challenge and first real failure. He tried to pursue a very rare and rigorous degree that didn’t come as easy to him as computers and technology did. When Rodney finally met a mountain he couldn’t climb, he was forced to change schools and chart a new life path.
That first failure became a springboard moment where Rodney vowed to deliver excellence in every future endeavor, from his marriage and family to his IT services business. Rodney’s collegiate path led him to his next ideal degree, Business Information Systems. Combining his love of computers and his desire to build a business, it was the perfect fit.
Just after finishing up his Information Systems degree, Rodney was working in his field for a company that operated with government contract clients. Because he and his bride were now parents to a precious baby, Rodney tried to negotiate a higher pay rate as the contract neared its expiration. He knew he had the experience and knowledge base to command the pay he rightfully deserved, but his boss did NOT value his skill set enough to renew his contract. That setback became the turning point for Rodney. He took this opportunity to pave a new path for himself and his family. He decided to create his own destiny by starting a new company full of endless possibilities. He would take control of his own schedule and never have to ask anyone for a pay raise ever again!
Since opening the doors to his IT services firm in 2001, Rodney built his business on a foundation of integrity, perseverance and genuine concern for his clients’ needs. That starts by building strong relationships with his clients, so Rodney knows how to provide them with high levels of customer service. He also strives to provide surprisingly quick responsiveness and a layered approach to cybersecurity. Because Rodney and his team care about the businesses they serve in their community within Central Pennsylvania, business owners have trusted LYLAB Technology Solutions for 10, 15 and even 20 years.
In his 20+ years of running LYLAB Technology Solutions, Rodney has made it a priority to stay on the bleeding edge of the newest technologies, software and cybersecurity solutions. As a result, both he and his technicians maintain multiple certifications and partnerships, including Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), VM Ware Certified Professional, Datto Certified Advanced Technician and Microsoft Certified Partner since 2003. But his most difficult and most recent certification is the one that really sets him apart. In September of 2021, Rodney took the step to become a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, earning his CISSP certification. He is also proud to have won the Lebanon Valley Chamber Entrepreneur Spirit Award, which recognized LYLAB as a premier IT services provider in his area. Plus, over the past 10 years, Rodney has educated local small business owners about the importance of cybersecurity by regularly speaking at the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce Small Business Lunch and Learns.
At the core of Rodney’s world are his faith, his family and his community. He grew up in Central Pennsylvania, just 10 minutes from where his office is today. He married his college sweetheart, Mosel, and they have three wonderful children. As an active member of his community, Rodney has held multiple prominent positions, including Lebanon Foundation Chairman, DOVE International Finance Committee member, former Chairman of the Zoning and Hearing Board as well as being a board member for both the Lebanon Valley Chamber and the Community of Lebanon Association (CLA). Through various youth ministries, Rodney has also had the privilege of serving the youth in his community for well over 20 years.
When he’s not solving problems for his clients, or serving in his community, Rodney loves to travel all over the US with his wife. They both really enjoy their annual trips to Walt Disney World, and they have even been known to sneak down to the Caribbean for Rodney’s favorite activity: scuba diving.
